Can I have a lesson if I've never driven before?
Absolutely. We regularly work with complete beginners. Your instructor introduces the fundamentals progressively, with guidance and support as you get more comfortable behind the wheel — no prior experience needed.
What happens during a first driving lesson?
If you're a complete beginner, we'll start with the vehicle and basic controls before moving to practical driving. As you progress, lessons cover steering, braking, intersections, parking, reversing and hazard perception — built up gradually rather than all at once.
Can I be picked up from home, school or work?
Lessons normally begin and finish at your home. With advance notice, we can often arrange pickup or drop-off elsewhere — just discuss your preferred arrangement with your instructor when booking.
How many lessons do I need before my driving test?
There's no set number — it depends on your experience, confidence, private practice and how quickly you apply feedback. We assess your current ability and tailor lessons to your individual needs rather than a one-size-fits-all program.
How much do driving lessons cost in Melbourne?
Lessons are available in 1 hour ($135), 90 minute ($180) and 2 hour ($240) sessions. A Drive Test, including our Test Pass Guarantee, is $290. We believe lessons should build real skills and confidence — not just teach you to pass a test.

Do you offer automatic driving lessons?
Yes. Our modern automatic training vehicles have dual controls and air conditioning, suited to complete beginners, test preparation and drivers building general confidence.
Do you offer manual driving lessons?
Yes. Manual driving involves extra skills like clutch control, gear selection and hill starts. Learning manual gives you more flexibility in which vehicles you can drive, and we build these skills progressively and safely.
Nervous & specialised support
Can you help nervous or anxious learner drivers?
Yes. We have extensive experience with nervous, anxious or overwhelmed learners. You don't need to feel confident before starting — building confidence is part of the process, at a pace that suits you.
Can you help learners with autism or learning difficulties?

Test preparation
Do you offer test preparation and pre-test lessons?
Yes. Rather than just driving a test route, we focus on the specific skills being assessed. Contact your instructor before booking your test so your availability and readiness can be considered.
How do I prepare for my Victorian driving test?
Preparation is more than practising the test route — it's about driving safely, obeying road rules and responding well to other road users. We recommend starting well before your test date rather than cramming in the last lesson or two.
What does the Victorian driving test assess?
It covers appropriate speed, road rules, safe observation, intersections, lane changes, following distances, hazard response and cooperation with other road users. Your instructor will help you understand what's expected and where to focus.
Do I need to pass the Hazard Perception Test first?
For most learners seeking a probationary licence, yes — the HPT must be completed before your Drive Test. We help build the hazard awareness it assesses. Always confirm current requirements with VicRoads or Transport Victoria.
How many hours do I need to practise before getting my Ps?
Eligible Victorian learners under 21 need a minimum of 120 supervised hours, including 20 at night, before their Drive Test. Professional lessons complement this practice — we encourage experience across suburban, freeway, city and country roads.
How do I know when I'm ready for my driving test?
You should be consistently safe and independent, not just able to complete a familiar route. If you're unsure, a pre-test assessment with your instructor gives an honest read on where you're at.
Can I use the Learn2drive car for my test?
Yes. You can use Learn2drive's training vehicle for your driving test once arrangements have been made with your instructor.
Using the same vehicle you have trained in can help you feel more comfortable and familiar on the day of your drive test.
Can you help me convert an overseas licence?
Yes. Driving in Australia can differ from overseas — road rules, positioning, observation and local conditions. We help identify what to focus on. Licensing requirements vary by circumstance, so also check with VicRoads or Transport Victoria.
